As shown in the accompanying chart, the Occupational Outlook Quarterly published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that every additional level of education completed leads to increased earnings and lower rates of unemployment.

Making informed career decisions requires reliable information. The internet has many resources available to research careers.  In particular, The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (http://www.bls.gov/oco/) publishes the Occupational Outlook Handbook.   The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. The Handbook gives you job search tips and links to information about the job market in each State.

 

The report identified 20 occupations that will account for more than 6.6 million jobs over the 2006-2016 period. Occupations in health, education, finance, sales, food service, criminal justice, and office and administrative services will grow rapidly.  Most of these job opportunities require specialized education which can be obtained from online institutions.  Some of these opportunities are shown in the chart below.
